Do batteries catch fire?

Yes, in rare cases, batteries can overheat and catch fire (known as thermal runaway). It's important to note however, that some battery types are more prone to this than others and we don't use the riskier type. All Vimma batteries use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry, the calm, collected cousin of the battery world. No volatile reactions, no thermal runaway risk, no drama.
Where are Vimma batteries installed?
Outside or in the garage.
That’s right, we keep our batteries outside the house. They come in a purpose-built, weatherproof enclosure, so outside, out of the way is our preference. No batteries in the hallway and certainly none in the loft. No ugly stack of boxes and wires next to your fridge, just a sleek, smart little unit doing its job quietly in the background.
What about wiring and installation?
Our batteries are installed by qualified electricians, in accordance with the appropriate standards:
- BS 7671 (the UK Wiring Regulations)
- PAS 63100 (the UK safety standard for battery energy storage systems)
That means:
- Discrete cabling and protection against short circuits.
- Safe integration with your fuse box and meter.
- All neat and tidy, no cowboy installations, ever!
Furthermore, we only work with accredited professionals who’ve been trained to install our products.
